What is the Children of Sol?
The Children of Sol is intellectual property currently in development by Method. Essentially, it is a deep and involving universe set in the distant future, with complex characters, a compelling narrative and an intensely brilliant visual fidelity. The goal of Children of Sol is to provide a story that not only invites viewers to read or watch, but to interact, decide, and feature within, in a way that will unique to any other science fiction franchise past, or currently in development.
Tell me more about the universe...
We join the story at a time around 51,000 years from now in a reality that is a continuation of our own. Great diasporas of humanity have followed in the intervening time creating three separate empires of man that have developed in isolation from one another.
Two of those empires established contact and had grown together for a while and after over a thousand years of ideological friction, political mistrust and military escalation, the empires of man appear to be heading towards war.
The main themes that run throughout the universe include:
● The nature of reality, time and mankinds place within the universe.
● Post-humanism, Trans-humanism
● Technological and social singularities (similar to the ones we currently face today .see global warming)
● The aesthetics of conflict (it's beauty and brutalities)
Who are the empires of Man?
Arkaedos Federation - Arkaedos, which translates to "The Ark and its Foundation", is a Pure-Human to Post-Physical life-cycle society made from the displaced offshoots of a culture of humans of the long lost Sol Republic. In this society, Rampant consumerism and hyper-capitalism drive the physical lives of its denizens before an individual migration or "download' to the Ark. This life-cycle is also known as Virtualism.
House of Kacylis - Lead by a family of 'Tiers', known as the House of Kacylis, they set forth from the then forever warring Sol Republic with the goal of establishing a civilisation free of scarcity and conflict. For nearly ten thousand of years, they meandered the galaxy in a period known as The Great Wandering, before before finally settling there racially diverse society of 'Tiered' Humans.
Sol Republic - The originator of all humans, of which Earth lays at the centre. It is the long lost civilisation of old who's fate we learn more about as the story progresses.
Why fifty one thousand years from now?
Children of Sol visual, and conceptually will have an aura of *epic* and *woah* that could only really be possible with such amount of time coming to pass. For example, Each empire has at it's core, a "Dyson Ring" structure over 3 AU (450 million kilometres) wide with other interstellar structures such as Rivens and Shards measuring in the tens of thousands of kilometres across. As such, technology from starships and weapons to communication and medicine more or less follow Authur C Clarke's third rule. For more information about technological principles within CoS, please view the "so, your fighters need pilots and other FAQ's" thread.
Why is there conflict?
Conflict in CoS is driven mostly by the fear of either civilisations way of life, culture and ideals ending as one civilisation out grows and effectively dominates the other. On top of this, the whole of humanity is approaching massive changes to it's way of life, brought about by the continual seepage of racial technology. In essence, it's not only red vs blue, as elements within each empire attempt to preserve it's way of life. Other minor groups from outside of the empire also fight for control of resources and influence.
What products do you plan to release?
3 products are currently scheduled for development.
1) Graphic Novels (working title 'Do not fear', preliminary launch date 2012) - A modern day Great Space Battles style book with an updated visual idenity and several truck loads of epic. Ideally, this publication would serve as a great introduction to the CoS Universe as we look to branch out to...
2) MMORPG - (preliminary launch date 2014) The Children of Sol game will be the premier engine of interaction and participation throughout all our products. This MMO would be a persistent, single environment*, dynamically scripted universe based primarily around space combat, free market and a SP + XP character development model (Both subscription time, and player experiences effect character development). The main feature of CoS will be it's dynamic story, lived live, by the players who participate within it. For more information on the game outlines please read the "If CoS where a game and other FAQ's article".
3) Novels - (first part preliminary launch date 2015)
